Umpires
2008 Umpire Training
The 2008 clinic will be on April 12, 2008.
The
CJL board of directors believe the children of ages 7 12 that the
umpires will be working with, look up to the umpires as role models
who are serious about helping the community.
The season will begin
in
May, and finish around the beginning of July. Games start at 5:45 on
weekdays and 9:00, 11:30, 2:00, and 4:30 on Saturdays, there may also be
games on Sunday afternoon for make-up or rainouts. We expect our
umpires to be at the CJL complex 15 to 30 minutes before game time so we
have no trouble starting on time.
Umpires this
year will have their name and phone number on file with the umpire
scheduler. They will be contacted to umpire games by the scheduler
1-2 weeks in advance. There are always instances where someone gets
sick or has an emergency and cant make it to the field. You need to
call the scheduler as soon as possible if you cant make it or you may be
called by the scheduler in the afternoon and asked to umpire that night
for someone else. This is a job and you need to treat it as
such. The more reliable you are the more you will be scheduled and
the more money you will make this summer.
Certified
umpires will receive up to $30.00 per game (depending on certification and
experience), whereas non-certified umpires will
only receive $20 per game. Games usually last between 1hr 45 min and 2hr
15min. You have the potential of making several thousand dollars in a
season. Umpires are paid every two weeks. Checks can be picked
up at the complex. We ask that when you pick up your check, you have
a list of the games and dates you umpired, so your check is correct or can
be corrected at that time.
There is a dress code and it needs to be followed.
This year all certified umpires will be required to wear gray
pants and navy blue umpires shirts with an official NBC umpire patch.
If you are not certified you will need to wear gray pants and a solid navy blue polo
shirt.
We look forward to seeing when the class is scheduled. If you have any questions, please contact us.
